Get Out And Ride

People say to me, "LSP, if that's your real name, which we doubt, how come you don't ride very much, seeing as how you're so country?" Good question, and to set the record straight, I drove out to a friend's place and got in the saddle.

We rode out around the 600 acre ranch, walk, trot, gallop, and surveyed the territory. A beautiful place to ride, with plenty of room to put the foot on the accelerator and several vistas that suddenly opened up in the light of the setting sun.

Somehow we picked up a small herd of horses that followed us about and played a little rodeo. You might want to be careful with that; a loose horse in front of you could decide to kick. Your chest. That didn't happen, fortunately, and we lost the herd.

There is a sense of expansive freedom being on horseback in Texas, and my mind goes back to the people who settled this land not that long ago. It was hard for them and the difficulties were great, but so too was the advantage.

I've been invited back, "Come out any time! But if you see a rattlesnake you have to shoot it."

That sounds fair to me.

Ride on,

SECEDE

"Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed... Whenever government becomes destructive to life, liberty, or property [i.e., the pursuit of happiness], it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it... It is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."
— American Declaration of Independence (1776)

Maybe the time has come. A lot of Scots sure seem to think so, and Spaniards, and Ukrainians and Texans, to name just a few.

What's going on, why would this be? Because our governments are so obviously beneficial to us? Like, we're getting so much benefit from Washington here in Texas.

But "what difference does it make?" Not very much if you like being ruled by Hillary Clinton and her poverty-stricken friends inside the Beltway.

Don't get me wrong, I love Great Britain and Scotland too, but my take, for what it's worth, is that Texas should hold a referendum. Run Wendy Davies and her crew of carpetbaggers out of town and confederate with the sane Western states.

Shill

Rumours that Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, is a sock puppet controlled by a sinister Bilderberger trifecta of Soros, Buffet and Bill Gates, are true.

That is all,

Walking in Texas? Take a Gun.

They say that walking's good for you but in Texas you don't know what you'll find.

Some Crew, All Wigged-Out In The Woods

Packs of wild dogs, turkeys, fierce hogs, maybe a dove or two and the occasional wigged-out crew of freaks, holed up in the brush, trying to "find the gig" and get back to Austin.

Mind How You Go

So I like to take a 12 gauge.

Be safe,

Opening Day of Dove Season, Evening Shoot

This morning's shoot was so enjoyable we decided to do it all over again this evening. First off, I moved along an avenue of trees with my philisophical friend GWB, hoping to flush out some birds and sure enough, one or two were flying. Great excitement and I tried to make up for my morning's slow start with some fairly aggressive shooting. It paid off well enough, a couple of dove down.

Decoys But No Dove

Walkabout over, we set up in the corner of a 100 acre field and waited for dove. A couple flew over, were missed, and then nothing. Perhaps the evening's shoot was going to be a bust, despite a promising beginning; typical Opening Day.

Stand To

I needn't have worried. After reverting to the morning's treeline spot and waiting for about half an hour, the birds starting coming in in waves. Like at Imjin Hill but from the air, and birds instead of fanatical Chicoms. Needless to say, the shooting was fast and furious and before long there was a respectable body of dove on the tailgate.

Kind Old LSP

Great result and some of the most enjoyable shooting I've had in a while. Looking forward to the jalapeno, bacon and dove poppers.

I love dove hunting.

I Love Texas

Secede

Unlike our NWO overlords in Washington I won't lie, it's good to be back in Texas. For me, this means reconnecting with the people in the Missions and various firearms. I was a bit worried to discover that my sporter Lee seemed to be shooting a bit low, so I tinkered about in the fierce wind chill. Low and behold, it was dead on! Not bad for a 97 year old rifle.

Get On Target, For God's Sake.

But ancient battle rifle porch projects aside, excitement's building as Opening Day of dove season is right 'round the corner. I drove out to a parishioner's farm to scout out the potential action.

Polled Herefords

There were plenty of dove, unlike last year, and more than a few rabbits. So things look promising; the plan is to set up at first light with my Wittgensteininan ally GWB and shoot some dove. Then grill them, popper style.

Hours of Hunting Fun

Of course the dove may choose Opening Day to make themselves scarce and I may forget how to shoot in the general excitement of the thing. But we'll see.

Behold Your Ruler

In the meanwhile we wait with bated breath for the most powerful man in the world to do something about his genocidal friends in Iraq, Syria and the Levant. Good luck with that and remember, it's all fun and games until they chop your buddy's head off.

Cheers,

Leave, Hippies.

State after state is joining the wildfire grass roots movement to leave the Union, and who can blame them? Texas is leading the pack, with over 90,000 people signing a petition to exit the United States.

Typical Austin "Street Art"

But one Texan town is holding out against the popular surge of anti-Washington sentiment. Austin, home to Texas' vibrant music scene and thousands of hippies, wants to stay put in the land of hopium.

Austin Hippies Acting Up

According to the Daily Caller, Austin's hippies have signed a counter petition, threatening to leave the Lone Star State if it leaves the Union.

Fleeing Texas

Off you go then, hippies. Use the back door.

No exceptions.

States' Rights

I stumbled across an article by Kirkpatrick Sale, writing for Chronicles. He's against "excessive federal power", which "is so overreaching that it is incompetent and inefficient, and it is so corrupt that it is clandestine and uncontrollable."

This federal power, for Sale, constitutes an "assualt on our liberty" and leads to the following:

"The system we confront is, for all its ineptness and misguided flailing, a powerful one and practiced in the ways of advancing its interests. But resistance is the only sane, intelligent, moral, and practical course. And the only agency, the only locus, for that struggle is to be found in the individual American states. It is not to be found in the family, the neighborhood (where such a unit still exists), or even in the so-called transition towns... all too limited, too powerless."

He quotes John Randolph, "And it is the power of the states to extinguish this government at a blow. They have only to refuse to choose members for the [Senate] or refuse to send electors for the President and Vice President, and the thing is done!"

I'd say there was sympathy for that point of view in Texas.
