Bury Killzone Update

What happened in the bucolic, quintessentially English town of Bury St. Edmunds was horrific. A two-bit bicycle crim with scores of convictions, allowed to roam freely, robbing stuff, until the Psycho Kings took him out with a 27" ninja sword (excuse me?) and a commando knife.

It seems like a simple case of self-defense, but is it? I reached out to LSPland's UK legal expert whoweighed in, thus:

On a legal take, they apparently weren't acting in self defence or defence of the home at night, nor using reasonable force in the prevention of crime under section 3 of the Criminal Law Act 1967. On the reported facts they did not effect a lawful arrest but simply killed the guy in a public place much like Al Capone or the IRA would have done. The verdict would have been the same in 1700 as the Crown does not delegate the power of execution to ordinary subjects. Indeed until the 20th century they would have faced being hanged themselves, unless they could have pleaded manslaughter successfully.

the Crown does not delegate the power of execution to ordinary subjects. There's weight in that, anyway you look at it. But what happens when the Law breaks down, when bicycle riding ciderhead junkies roam the streets unhindered, ripping off your goods. They get the ninja sword.

really?

To put it another way, when you erode all standards of decency and declare every aspect of right and wrong, morality itself, to be a figment of our imagination or at best a practical compromise with self-interest, don't be surprised when people act accordingly.

huh

Expect things to get a helluva lot worse and in the meanwhile, I'll call the Bury case. Three bad birds taken out with one stone.

Bury St. Edmunds Killzone

Perhaps you've heard of Bury St. Edmunds, perhaps you haven't. It's a beautiful market town in Suffolk or at least it was. It has an ancient Abbey, now a cathedral, and a lovely hotel, the Angel, along with a tiny pub which pays homage to a mummified monkey.

Debenhams, you may recall, attempted to take the town over and were cursed. But that was then, this is now. Bury has become a dangerous place, a kill zone.

Try not to splutter and choke on your drinks, it's true. David and Edward King, father and son, weren't happy with serial bicycle riding thief Neil Charles, so they took him out with a faux samurai sword and a commando knife. Take that, scumhead.

the Kings

Charles, you see, had messed with the wrong boys, who sallied forth when the bike riding perp was caught on the King CCTV system. Quick, they thought, let's take that fkr out, and so they did, stabbing the lowlife and chasing the ciderhead crim off their property.

Neil who is now dead because chancing tackhead

Bury's two-bit tackhead  crim subsequently died of his wounds. Oh dear. The Kings have been sentenced to decades of gaol time for murder vigilantism. So what's the score?

Were the Kings right to take out the pestilent thief who terrorized their dismal rural welfare project, or were they wrong? I call right, free men are able to defend their property but... samurai sword, commando knife? Maybe the Kings belong in the lockup too. Sayn.

The Church of England Is So Very Awesome

The venerable Church of England's attracting hundreds of thousands of Britons to its pews because it's so  very, very gay. Except that it it's not, COE numbers are plummeting and that's really weird because all the millions of LGBTQ+ people in the UK should be flocking to the nation's premiere rainbow conventicle. But they're not.

So strange. Now that the throne of Augustine's so gaily inclusive, all the colors of the rainbow, you'd think it would have grown by leaps and bounds. Unless we go gay, said the pundits, no one will take us seriously.

Mirabile dictu, lo and behold, go figure, no sh*t Sherlock they're not, which is why the venerable if shrinking Church of England's average Sunday attendance has fallen off a cliff, from some 1.3 million people a Sunday in 1980 to a miserable 600k or so today.

And this is weird, it should be the other way around. Now that the UK's so gay, you'd think the gen pop would head to the gayest church around, right? But they haven't, they've stayed home, polishing the proverbial Baphomet.

At some point, gentle readers, all two of you, this insane, satanic craze will end leaving a lot of people feeling really stoopid as they clutch their dirty little rainbow flag.

Edmund King And Martyr

Perhaps you missed it in the clown show circus, shampeachment event but today's the Feast of St. Edmund, King and Martyr. Edmund was King of East Anglia in the second half of the 9th century A.D.

He was a model ruler who refused to listen to sneaky, lying, perfidious informant spies, focusing his energies instead on the Christian life and fighting the heathen Vikings.

The latter killed him in 870, torturing the martyr king in a failed attempt to make Edmund renounce his faith before shooting him to death with arrows. The King's shrine was established at the abbey church of Bury St. Edmunds, where it remained until the impious monarch Henry VIII destroyed it in a fit of crazed greed.

Here's his Collect:

O God of ineffable tenderness, who didst enable the most blessed King, Edmund, to overcome his enemy by laying down his life for Thy Name, mercifully grant that we, Thy servants, may, by his intercession, overcome and destroy in ourselves the temptations of our old enemy. Through our Lord . . .

St. Edmund, intercede for us against the raging heathen of our times.

God bless,

Church of England Cathedral Taken Over by Mantis People?

Startling new evidence suggests that Bury St. Edmund's Cathedral has been infiltrated by Mantis People.

Sources in the picturesque market town have drawn attention to a new stained glass window, which they claim is being commissioned by the Cathedral.

"The Cathedral has always been a patron of the arts," said one insider, who wishes to remain anonymous, "But this is an outrage. The new window isn't even about Jesus. I think our beloved Cathedral has been taken over by Mantis People."

Others disagree, saying that the proposed window is just the cover of a popular book, Quatermass and the Pit.

"It may look a lot like a stained glass window in the Cathedral, and lot of people in the town think it is," claimed window skeptic and paranormal expert, A. Delgarde, "That's not true. It's the cover of a popular novel, Quatermass and the Pit. There is no truth at all to rumours suggesting that the Cathedral has been taken over by Mantis People."

Is the Cathedral's new window a smoking gun, showing that the once Christian place of worship is being run by an off-world cabal of mantids, run amok? Or is it just the cover of a book?

You decide,

All in a Night's Work, in Texas

Far-sighted readers of this family blog will know that I'm turning one deadly assault rifle into two deadly assault rifles. I went a step in that direction this evening, by assembling an AR15 Lower Receiver. It's not hard.

I drove to Waco in the rain and bought a Spike's Tactical stripped lower, a buffer tube with components, and an Anderson "parts kit." Then I drove back home and put it all together. I used a small padded vise to drive the trigger guard roll pin home, and taped up the receiver to install the bolt catch assembly -- using a roll pin punch and a taped punch to keep the holes aligned.

The front take down pin was a bit tricky, because the small brass detent kept springing out of its hole, like a Womyn Dean in search of a Bishopric. It's not easy to find those little detents, when they're rolling around on the floor like so many predatory texts in an English market town.

But the job was done soon enough and I was pleased with result. If you want to do this, consider getting some roll pin punches, a lower receiver vise block of some sort, and a razor blade to help keep the front take down pin detent in place, while you slide in the pin.

New Grip to Follow

Do you save any money, doing it yourself? Sure you do, a bit; more if you're a parts dealer. But you also have the satisfaction of having a hand in something you're going to shoot; and that's alright. More practically, you get to understand your rifle.

This lower will go on an upper that a friend's assembling for me. My hope, of course, is that it will shoot like a laser.

Cheers,

LSP
